Student Supervision Coordinator

This is a full-time, exempt position for an individual that enjoys thinking outside the box, can quickly build rapport, is fun, is comfortable with conflict, likes to challenge individuals assumptions and actions, is a creative problem solver, maintains a positive outlook in the face of adversity, has strong advocacy skills, is a critical and creative thinker, and has excellent judgement and decision making.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Communicate (written/oral) with students and parents about a variety of issues, including difficult conversations

  • Maintain understanding and oversight of overall student behaviors and resulting impacts upon program community

  • Develop one-on-one coaching relationships with students to support them in the implementation of their overall College Excel experience to reach their potential as independent young adults and successful college students

  • Meet with assigned students a minimum of twice per week to discuss progress

  • Use behavioral coaching techniques that help the student successfully address the behaviors and attitudes that interfere with their ability to make the personal change that will benefit their college success

  • Keep a global perspective on all aspects of the student’s life as the student learns to maintain balance and integrity and as they attain personal and academic success

  • Support life skills training for students in various stages of their personal development and college careers including goal setting and the development of an action plan

  • Keep accurate and timely records of coaching sessions

  • Work individually with students to develop successful study skills for inside and outside of the college classroom

  • Create effective daily, weekly, short term and long term plans and schedules with students

  • Assist students with the development of organizational and self-management strategies for the demands of a college term

  • Work closely with the coaching team to insure students’ academic and personal needs are being addressed effectively

  • Assist students and parents with the application and registration procedures for COCC/ OSU-Cascades

  • Maintain positive professional relationships with COCC/OSU staff and other community partners

  • Assist and guide student status at COCC/OSU

  • Assist students with self-advocacy in the college environment by setting up accommodations

  • Formulate an academic plan, in collaboration with the Academic Director, with outgoing students to include assistance with college search, if necessary

  • Schedule and lead conference calls regularly with students and parents/financial sponsors

  • Assist and guide students to be self-advocates in the college environment by setting up accommodations and implementing strategies that address mental health issues and learning disabilities.


General Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to College Excel Core Curriculum instruction and implementation

  • Attend all staff and student meetings

  • Assist students with homework assignments as necessary

  • Assist College Excel Team in managing and organizing facilities, including light cleaning and upkeep of the facility

  • Interview and tour prospective students and their families

  • Facilitate/supervise off site and/or infrequent overnight educational courses or activities as necessary

  • Shuttle students to and from College Excel facilities and/or COCC as necessary

  • Meet with Directors once per week

  • Other duties as assigned





  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work or psychology

  • Experience working in an educational or social service / therapeutic related field, preferably with young adults

  • 3-5 years experience working in a behavioral health field

  • Experience working with parents and families, knowledge of family systems and dynamics

  • Ability to confront maladaptive behaviors with compassion, skill, and confidence

  • Excellent group facilitation skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work in team setting as well as independently

  • Competent and efficient computer skills

  • Professional and dependable work ethics

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team

  • Understanding of and experience working with individuals with different learning styles

  • Demonstrated ability to work in team setting as well as independently

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

  • May require infrequent weekend or evening work



  • Master’s Degree

  • Wilderness or therapeutic program experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work with young adults

  • Experience working in a college setting and/or wilderness setting

  • An understanding of learning styles and experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses.

  • CADC preferred


Salary for this position is $40K - $45K per year based on experience and includes a comprehensive benefit package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Chiro,  paid Time Off, 401(K) plan)
