STUDENT SUCCESS COACH
Sofia is a driven educator and lifelong learner who has a true passion for helping students recognize and achieve their fullest potential. She pursued a career in education and earned her BA in English with a specialization in teaching at the University of California, Irvine. She later went on to earn her MA in Applied Linguistics with a concentration in ESL and Bilingual Studies from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Through her education and life experiences, Sofia developed a passion that is rooted in helping students from all walks of life receive equitable opportunities for success.
Before becoming a Student Success Coach, Sofia worked as the Academic Tutor for College Excel. As a tutor, Sofia learned about the diverse needs and strengths of the College Excel student population and worked individually with students on building foundational skills to succeed academically. She has also worked at a therapeutic boarding school in Bend as a house parent for adolescent girls. In these roles, Sofia truly began to appreciate and advocate for holistic approaches to education that support students in all aspects of their development and well-being.
In addition to working in experiential education, Sofia has experience teaching English literacy to English language learners at various education levels and as has worked as a volunteer ESL Instructor in the Central Oregon community. Coming from an eclectic work and education background, Sofia has had the privilege of working with learners from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds who have continually taught her the importance of incorporating patience, empathy, and kindness into her daily practice.
Sofia finds joy in staying physically and mentally fit, learning Spanish, and spending quality time with her family in the great outdoors.
