Overnight Monitor

This is a part-time, overnight position. Position requires availability to work irregular hours including evenings and overnights and potentially during weekends. 10-12 hour shifts - up to 30 hours a week.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe and nurturing environment and provides positive role modeling

    • Monitors activities and whereabouts of residents

    • Leads residents through the evening and weekend schedules that may include: chores, shopping, meals, recreational and leisure activities

    • Assist residents in skill development

    • Provides transportation as needed

    • Serves as a liaison between students and day staff

    • Enforces program rules, expectations, and boundaries with residents

    • Helps problem solve basic issues with residents and facilities

    • Observes and documents behaviors

  • Utilizes behavioral management and coaching techniques appropriately with residents

    • When residents need feedback it is clear, specific, timely and respectful

    • Effectively communicates behavior choices to residents, outlining the positive and negative consequences of their choices

    • Communication is adjusted to individual residents and based on their needs

  • Employs relationship and coaching skills effectively

    • Models healthy interactions and respectful communication with residents

    • Relates to residents objectively and fairly

    • Works with residents to problem solve and identify solutions to problematic behaviors or choices

  • Works effectively with co-workers

    • Maintains communication with other team members through the use of a Communication Log and shift-change meetings

    • Keeps other team members apprised of student issues that happened during shift

    • Consults with team members on residents or program issues and follows through with decisions Remains aware of overall program climate and assists others when need arises

    • Participates and contributes to team meetings in a constructive manner

    • Communicates constructively and appropriately to problem solve differences

  • Completes all resident reports, protocols, and records in a timely manner in accordance with program policies and procedures

    • Writes progress notes in accordance with policies and procedures

    • Writes clear incident reports when needed

    • Documents all relevant contact with others (parents, visitors, etc.)

  • Meets regularly with Weekend Monitor and actively participates in professional development initiatives

  • Performs other duties as assigned by Weekend Monitor





  • Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in psychology, education or recreation

  • Experience or desire to work with struggling or at-risk young adults

  • Outdoor leadership skills (preferred)

  • Physically fit (recreational and fitness activities)



  • Conflict resolution techniques

  • Group facilitation and leadership

  • Interpersonal communication

  • Ability to be mindful of one’s own reaction

  • Ability to maintain rational detachment

  • Recognizes own limits

  • CPR, ProAct or CPI and First Aid certified on date of employment or within 60 days of employment and maintain current certification throughout employment


Salary for this position is $10 - $14 per hour based on experience.
