College Excel’s 2007-2008 Community Service Project for Equine Outreach is Underway!
Equine Outreach is a non-profit horse rescue organization located in Bend, Oregon that facilitates the rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, and permanent placement of abused, neglected and unwanted horses.
Equine Outreach made national and world news when they rescued 130 horses from Burns, Oregon. Many of the horses were near death, starving, abused and severely neglected. Read about the miraculous recoveries of these horses by visiting www.equineoutreach.com .
Equine Outreach continues to rescue horses and presently has over 50 horses, including five colts and three adults that were rescued last week and are recovering from starvation and abuse.
College Excel students recently helped clean and repaint horse stalls at Equine Outreach’s facility. Some students worked with newer horses as they slowly learn to trust human contact. This fall, students will continue to commit their time and efforts to help Equine Outreach. We have dedicated Friday afternoons to be of service and will be working on fundraising efforts throughout the year.
Donations of time, money or supplies are always welcome. To learn how you can help, go to www.equineoutreach.com .
Leadership Course Completed!
College Excel’s exciting two week Leadership Course finished last week with 17 students participating in a series of challenging team building initiatives where they practiced applying the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. In week one of the course the students learned about Habits 1, 2 and 3 (Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First) which deal with self mastery. They are the "private victories" required for character growth. Private victories precede public victories.
In week two habits 4, 5 and 6 which are the more personality-oriented "public victories" of Teamwork, Cooperation and Communication were taught and practiced.
Habit 7, the habit of Renewal which teaches students how to create an upward spiral of growth will be a theme for this fall’s student curriculum.
